We’ve almost reached the end of the year once again – the stores are already starting to sell Christmas items and New Year’s is basically around the corner! But before we get into the winter vibes, let’s not forget the one holiday, that makes the fall season so memorable every year: Halloween!
Sadly, we only get to celebrate Halloween once a year, which also means we only get to dress up once – so you have to choose wisely. Have you been wanting to go as an anime character this fall? Then don’t just go as a normal school girl or just any guy from any anime. There are plenty of characters out there, who will scare the shit out of you and everyone who gets to see your amazing costume! If you haven’t decided yet which anime character is the scariest, then this list is perfect for you – here are 15 scary anime cosplay ideas for Halloween!
#1 Gasai Yuno – Mirai Nikki
What’s a scary anime cosplay list without Gasai Yuno, one of the scariest anime girls out there? Let your inner yandere out and show the world the true insanity of this girl!
What’s also really great about this cosplay is, that it’s easy, not too expensive, but still looks super good – which is why this had to be on the list. You can get the wig for $18 and Yuno’s famous school outfit for around $30. So, if your budget for this Halloween is on the lower side, I definitely recommend this costume!
#2 Death Note – Ryuk
If a shinigami that can kill you just by writing your name in a notebook isn’t scary, then I really don’t know what is! Transform into Ryuk from Death Note for this Halloween and scare even all the non-otakus with your creepy outfit! This one probably takes a little more effort than the first costume, but to be honest, I think it’s totally worth it. You even have different options when it comes to creating the outfit: you can buy a mask of Ryuks face – which can get a little expensive – but for all the creative minds out there, you can paint his face as well! If you’re thinking of doing that, then check this awesome makeup tutorial out:
#3 Tokyo Ghoul – Kaneki Ken
Imagine walking past a guy dressed like this in the middle of your town…This is something that won’t only scare all the Tokyo Ghoul fans! Grab your favorite black hoodie, some dark coloured pants and then the mask and a wig and you’re already good to go! This costume is not only great for scaring the shit out of everyone, but also for taking amazing pictures like the one above! There are tons of different Kaneki Ken masks out there, so choose your favorite one!
#4 Tokyo Ghoul – Touka
And for all the female Tokyo Ghoul fans out there – Touka looks pretty scary as well! This costume is almost just as simple as the one for Kaneki, and you basically just add the contacts instead of a mask. And if you were planning on going trick-or-treating with your boy, then how about going as a Tokyo Ghoul duo? It’ll for sure make lots of heads turn around…and lots of legs run away!
#5 Hunter x Hunter – Hisoka
Hisoka might not look as scary as a shinigami or a ghoul at first sight, but you can definitely believe he is. I would say the overall effort for this costume is easy to medium, since the makeup isn’t that difficult and then all you need is the wig and his body suit, and maybe a nice deck of cards to play around with throughout the entire night. The only challenge you might have to face when cosplaying him is recreating his hairstyle: you can buy a normal short red wig and then style it up with a bunch of hairspray etc.
#6 Elfen Lied – Lucy
Another pink-haired girl with an insanely scary past. And she definitely has one of the easiest costumes to make – I mean, you can even DIY her entire outfit if you feel crafty. And if you don’t, no worries: there are always already finished ones! The helmet is something more challenging, because there are only very few places that actually sell it. So, if you’re already working on the outfit, why not do the helmet as well?
#7 Deadman Wonderland – Shiro
This is probably one of my favorite cosplays in this list, mainly because I absolutely loved Shiro in Deadman Wonderland and because I think you can’t really mess this one up. The outfit might be a little bit on the expensive side with $75 for the suit and then another couple of bucks for the red contacts and the wig. So, this cosplay probably isn’t for the casual Halloween celebrater, but I believe it’s definitely worth it!
#8 Dragon Ball – Majin Buu
It looks pretty easy to turn into Majin Buu for Halloween – but if you really want to do it right, then you need to pay attention to the details, which can cause a lot of work. But if you’re just looking for a casual costume that doesn’t require too much effort, you can always just spray-paint yourself in a super sweet pink and wear some white sweatpants with a black belt. Or you can buy an entire fat Boo outfit like this one.
#9 Attack On Titan – Titan
For this amazing cosplay, you have two options: you can either do it like the couple on the picture and paint the entire human anatomy on your body (which looks pretty awesome, but takes some effort). Or you can just buy a titan costume online or in a cosplay store, which is the easier version, but not less scary. If you think you have enough skill to paint yourself a costume, I would say go with the first option. But for everyone as untalented as me, the costume is probably more than good enough:
#10 Tokyo Ghoul – Rize
Can you imagine coming across Rize in the middle of the night? I get the chills just by thinking of it! I can only imagine this to be a great outfit for Halloween – so girls, grab your fake glasses (or real ones), smear some blood all over your pretty white dresses and search for some cute and innocent boys to scare the Hell out of! This is one of the easier cosplays, so if you’re looking for something creepy last-minute, you should definitely put Rize on your list!
#11 Tokyo Ghoul – Juuzou
Okay, I know this is the fourth character from Tokyo Ghoul already. But the characters from this anime are just too darn perfect for a scary Halloween costume! And from all Tokyo Ghoul characters I’ve mentioned in this list, I find Juuzou to be the creepiest and most interesting one. There’s just something about his aura, that makes his looks even creepier. So, this costume is definitely a must for all Tokyo Ghoul fans (and actually all non-fans as well)!
#12 Naruto – Orochimaru
Ahh Orochimaru – one of the most well-known villains from Naruto, even by non-fans. Some people love him, some absolutely hate him – but either way, he makes a great character to cosplay for Halloween! The makeup is super easy, so you don’t have to worry about that either – all you need is the outfit, a wig (if you don’t have long black hair already) and, if you feel like it, a sword as an accessory.
#13 Sword Art Online 2 – Death Gun
Who would’ve thought that a Sword Art Online character would make the list of scary cosplays? And to be honest, I don’t even think you need to have watched the anime to find Death Gun scary – just look at those glowing eyes! This is probably the only scary character in SAO, but nevertheless, he’s doing an awesome job!
#14 Corpse Party – Sachiko
What’s creepier than a pale little girl with long black hair and blood dripping down her face…? If you have an old dress lying around, you can cut some holes in it, make it look veeeery used and voila – there’s your Sachiko costume! And, of course, you can buy a wig for about $20 on Amazon and maybe a little bit of makeup, and that’s really all you need. So, this is definitely a perfect last minute costume – and Halloween is soon, so you have to decide quickly!
#15 Soul Eater – Medusa
And the very last – but definitely not the least – Halloween costume we have on this list is Medusa from Soul Eater. This is a relatively popular character to cosplay, so you’ll have a lot of options when it comes to choosing the right outfit and wig etc. And you can even show your artistic side by painting her tattoos on your arms (or get a friend to do it for you, which seem the easier way since it can get difficult to paint your own arms).
