An Idiot Friend Anime – Aho Girl Review

Not being able to play when you want to is painful!

 – Hanabatake, Yoshiko

Hello to all the Otakus out there! Today I shall review one of my personal favorite summer 2017 anime. Get ready to grab your gadgets and your bananas because the “Idiot girl” has arrived and her idiocy will make you cry for more of this anime!

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: July 4, 2017 – September 19, 2017
  • Genre: Comedy, Romance, School, Shounen
  • Studio: Diomedea

Aho girl is basically all about our main heroine the “Idiot Girl” or Hanabatake, Yoshiko and her trusty Ill-tempered childhood friend Akutsu, Akuru in her daily life of idiocy which seems to annoy Akutsu and the other students. Yoshiko is an idiot and I mean a complete idiot who manages to get zero’s on her tests and consumed by an absurd obsession of bananas, her senseless acts have caused her mother to lose all hope for her. There is only one person who can keep Yoshiko in check who is none other than Akustu. Yoshiko’s idiocy is beyond compare and Akutsu has to deal with her every single day to knock some sense into her. Unfortunately, Yoshiko manages to stand right back up and go back to her daily shenanigans while trying to make Akutsu fall for her. No matter how many times Akutsu tried to help her violently or not Yoshiko still does not know the meaning of “common sense”.

The thing I like about this anime is the slapstick comedy that the characters give with each episode. After watching the first episode I knew that the first 12 mins of my time watching it were worth it. I like the way Yoshiko manages to change a lot of people around her for better or for worse, either way, it makes the anime more hilarious. The art style and the way the characters were drawn and animated are a good match for the story. All the characters in the anime have each a weird side to them that makes all the more reason to laugh at the things they do. The opening song of Aho Girl which was “Zenryoku Summer” gave the start of the anime a hilarious vibe and added a few funny scenes made the song all the funnier. The story was very original and creative because there was no anime with an idiot as the main character. The thing I like the most is how Yoshiko tries to help others even if she is an idiot and her way of helping is … stupid. Instead of hating her the characters will praise, admire, and even learn something from her.

The only thing I got disappointed on is the number of minutes the anime shows after every episode. The anime is as long as 12 mins each episode which kinda sucked considering that the manga has already gotten a lot of chapters. Other than that I say this anime is great in so many ways thanks to the plot, characters, art style and especially the author of this. I personally thank you for creating a character and a story that shows true idiocy physically and mentally.

Overall I give this anime 9/10 for basically everything except for the number of minutes the anime airs each episode. If you Otakus wanna watch an anime with hilarious backfires, weird relationships, bananas, life-changing lessons and an idiot girl who could change your view of comedy then “Aho Girl” is the anime that will make you cry with laughter.

If you watched it what would be your rating?

Do you guys wish for a season 2?

Let me know in the comments below.

Until next time my fellow Otakus! And remember to make sure to eat your bananas so you can be like Yoshiko!
